Hi, I’m Tom.

A couple of years ago, I quit my dream job, writing for The Economist, to pursue another dream job: setting up and running my own independent bookshop.

Lots of people have this dream, I think. But — for better or for worse — I have actually gone for it. My bookshop, Backstory, is now open for business.

My newsletter is a place for you to join me on this adventure. I’m not exactly sure where we’re going, but I’d love to have you along for the ride.

Each week I’ll post an update about the highs and lows of running a bookshop: from the emotions of turning a dream into a reality to behind-the-scenes info on the surprising tricks of the book trade via nuggets of gossip and, of course, lots of great book recommendations.

Please sign up and join me.

Tom

I run Backstory, an indie bookshop in south London, and edit Backstory magazine, stocked in fine bookshops around the world. I used to be a journalist at The Economist, but now I'm staying at home to sell you books!
