You weee lucky they didn’t actually think the books were free. Back in the day when I did this at science conferences, the Russians and Eastern Europeans would just take the books off the stand thinking they were free!

Oh no! But it doesn’t sound like too much of a disaster provided everyone went away smiling (with books in their case and a profit in your case). Your customers will forgive you being a bit slower as you were offsite and not in your shop (even though the shop hasn’t arrived yet). On the systems front you do need to cope with the Christmas rush. I remember when I was a bookshop assistant we did change our set up at Christmas with two till points and higher staffing levels and roles a little more regimented - x serving customers, y packing books, z doing orders etc. than they were normally. But I guess the underlying systems were probably the same.
